Timeline
June 2026
Selected outcome
Coaches can set default teaching days, manage accounts separately, and apply a technique across a week or month instead of re-entering the same details.

Before this app, coaches had to fill out every field in a Google Sheet for every class, including repeat details like their own name. There were no defaults or shortcuts, and the process was cumbersome enough that we often skipped it. I designed and built a more useful workflow with AI-assisted coding, then expanded it based on early user testing.

The ask

Make curriculum planning fast enough that coaches would actually use it, keep calendars in sync, and give students the latest schedule without asking them to repeatedly check a website.

UFC Gym BJJ Scheduling App project overview
  • Worked as the product designer and used AI-assisted coding to build the app
  • Mapped the coach, administrator, and student workflows
  • Turned early user testing into a second round of features
  • Designed the responsive coaching workspace and student calendar
What I used

Next.js · Codex · Google Apps Script · Google Sheets · Google Calendar · Google Drive · Cloudflare

What changed

Coaches can set default teaching days, manage accounts separately, and apply a technique across a week or month instead of re-entering the same details.

Notes and reference images flow into the calendar, and students can subscribe through Google or Apple instead of checking the website.

02-01
The challenge

Filling out the Google Sheet meant re-entering every field for every class, even repeated information like the coach’s name. It was cumbersome enough that we often did not use it.

What I did

I replaced repeated entry with default coaches by weekday, reusable class types, and controls for applying a technique to a full week or month.

02-02
The challenge

Early testing exposed slow sign-in, unreliable calendar syncing, and no clear way to manage coach accounts separately.

What I did

I used those findings to improve sign-in and syncing, add separate coach management, and protect recurring assignments and one-off changes.

02-03
The challenge

Planning data did not help students unless they kept checking the website.

What I did

I added reference images and notes that populate calendar entries, plus Google and Apple Calendar subscriptions so students can get updates automatically.

A closer look

UFC Gym coach class planning workspace
03-01

The class editor grew through testing to support reusable techniques, notes, references, and week or month bulk-fill options.

UFC Gym recurring coaching assignment controls
03-02

Preset coaches can be assigned by weekday while one-off substitutions stay protected.

UFC Gym live student class calendar
03-03

Students can use the live calendar or subscribe through Google or Apple and never need to check the website.

  1. 04-01Keep testing with coaches over full curriculum cycles.
  2. 04-02Add lightweight change history so sync and account issues are easier to diagnose.
  3. 04-03Measure whether subscriptions reduce how often coaches need to answer schedule questions.
